New requirements specification combines training with practice in pipe technology

17 October 2025

A lack of knowledge among designers and engineers about what applies to plant and pipe construction was the starting point that led to SSG7910. SSG is now supporting training providers with a new, free requirements specification for piping system technology.

Many newly trained designers are ready to take on the challenges of the industry, but often lack the practical knowledge needed to get started right away. Consulting firms and facility owners see a clear gap between training and reality.

To meet this need, SSG’s piping system committee has drawn up a requirements specification for supplementary training in piping system technology. The requirements specification, together with SSG’s standards in pipe system technology, can be used by training organisers who want to develop and offer a course that meets market needs. The aim is to increase competence and give both employees and contracted designers a faster route into the profession – with the right knowledge from the start.

“Many people already work according to SSG standards in their daily work, and the idea behind this free requirements specification is to enable educational institutions to use it as a basis when designing their courses. In this way, those who complete their training are better equipped for working life,” says Christer Wallin, Committee Process Manager at SSG.
