The guide specifies definitions and instructions relating to the recording of operating statistics in the pulp and paper industry. The purpose of the guide is to facilitate and improve the efficiency with which statistics relating to the causes of plant outages, shutdowns and faults are recorded with the aid of standardised concepts.
Suitably formulated and standardised operating statistics afford
– a basis for evaluating the efficiency of existing production departments and machinery
– a decision-making basis for implementing efficiency-improvement measures
– means of comparing equipment in different plants and companies.

The guide is used to measure by department of each plant. Plant measurement is a total compilation of the departments.The guide is considered suitable for application to all production departments in the pulp and paper industry.
