Electronic driving permits: An efficient solution for industry
17 October 2025
The management of driving permits in industry is often a time-consuming and complex process. Paper-based administration means inefficiency and the risk of errors, while legal requirements and GDPR complicate management. SSG now offers a digitalised solution.
Traditionally, industrial companies have handled driving permits for trucks or lifting equipment manually, which has often led to lost documents and inefficient follow-up. Ida Karlsson, Health and Safety Advisor at SSG, emphasises the importance of a digital solution:
– With hard-copy documentation of different types such as certificates and forms, it is difficult to keep track of everything, both as an employer and as a coworker. A digital solution solves many of the problems facing the industry.

From paper to electronic systems
Many industrial companies are attempting to develop their own electronic driving licence systems, but this can be both costly and difficult to manage. Markus Sjöholm, Product Manager at SSG, sees a different way forward:
– Many companies are attempting to develop their own digital solutions. The problem is that in-house systems often involve a large amount of long-term management and further development. SSG can offer a ready-made solution that does not require industrial companies to create their own or further develop the system themselves. The problem is not always insufficient resources or budget. The biggest challenge is to build a system that can also be used by external parties, such as contractors. This is where we become the optimal supplier.
In 2024, SSG began to further develop permit management in the Workflow feature of the SSG On site app. This includes the possibility to handle driving permits electronically, a feature that has been available since January 2025 and complies with the new regulations in AFS 2023:11.
About Workflow
Workflow is a feature in SSG On site that streamlines and digitises the management of work permits, driving permits, local certificates and checklists for high-risk work, as well as all other types of work tasks. This makes it possible to manage driving permits for machines such as trucks, overhead cranes and mobile work platforms directly via mobile phone.
How do electronic driving permits work in Workflow?
Through Workflow, the employer can easily issue all types of driving permits via the SSG On site app. The employee receives all the information directly on their mobile phone and can accept or deny received driving permits. The coordination manager can then review and approve these via the system’s administrator interface.
Continued development
In 2025, SSG plans to integrate the electronic driving permits feature with its skills database, SSG Skillnation. This will automate the verification of training certificates, further streamlining the process.
– It must be easy to do the right thing - and now it has never been easier,” says Markus Sjöholm, Product Manager at SSG.
