Helena Carell – a new force in SSG’s international journey
17 October 2025
With a solid background in defence and security, both in the public and private sectors, Helena Carell is the new Head of Internationalisation and Compliance at SSG. She most recently served as an officer in the Swedish Armed Forces, security manager at Vattenfall Eldistribution and CEO of the defence industry company Air Target.
– I have always been driven by assignments that strengthen a company’s resilience, where technology, strategy and social benefit converge. At SSG, I see a unique opportunity to contribute to industrial development and strengthen resilience through safe, smart and digital solutions,” says Helena.
Strategic expertise from security-critical environments
Helena began her career as a professional officer and has since held several senior positions in security and protection, total defence planning and operations closely related to industry. She also holds an Executive MBA from Stockholm University with a focus on strategy and leadership in complex environments.
– This experience allows me to quickly understand the needs of our clients, especially in safety and compliance issues, both nationally and internationally.
From Jämtland to Stockholm – with the world as my workplace
Growing up in Åsarna and on Frösön in Jämtland, with a background in both cross-country skiing and biathlon, Helena is used to working purposefully. She has lived north of Stockholm for many years with her family and dog, a German pointer who enjoys adventures in the forest.
– I like to move around, whether it’s cycling, running, cross-country or slalom, hunting or hiking in the mountains. This summer, I also tried my hand at golf.
Despite the distance between her home in Stockholm and SSG’s head office in Sundsvall, work runs smoothly.
– SSG is a digitally mature organisation, so remote work is no obstacle. At the same time, I prioritise being in Sundsvall as often as I can – the office environment is inspiring and there is a lot of value in meeting people personally. My role also involves quite a bit of travel around Europe, which makes the proximity to Arlanda practical.
Robust and globally relevant SSG
SSG has grown considerably in recent years and is now in an exciting phase of internationalisation. Helena sees this development as very positive.
– Many industrial companies operate in several countries and have similar challenges. Our combination of industry collaboration, digital platforms and long-standing roots in Swedish industry is unique. By working strategically with compliance and security while growing internationally, we can make SSG even more relevant globally.
The future looks bright, but it will also require strong teamwork.
– Together we can make a difference – and I’m happy to be part of that work.
