Oskar Åhling

Oskar Åhling - from martial arts to code at SSG

30 March 2026

As a teenager, Oskar Åhling was already fascinated by technology, but the way there was far from straight. Hockey, MMA, boxing and martial arts filled the days until the body stopped a sporting career. Meanwhile, he worked as a train host and began to think about the next step. His interest in problem-solving and development soon prevailed, and he decided to invest his whole heart in system development. After completing his grades, he selected a practical vocational college.

– I wanted a specific and practical training, something concrete," says Oskar.

During the training, he heard a lot about SSG from different perspectives, and after an internship elsewhere, he received a message from SSG’s recruiter - the right place, the right timing.

– Before I started, I had heard rumours that IT teams rarely help each other, but that anxiety quickly disappeared. Everyone I met has been incredibly helpful and unpretentious," says Oskar.

Driven by learning

At SSG, Oskar works in Team Trevlig. His workdays are varied and include development, further development, bug handling, code reviews and launches.

– It’s like a puzzle. I like to build up flows in my head and create working solutions that actually work in real life.

Oskar’s work makes a difference every day and without his and the other developers’ code, SSG’s digital services must work. Seeing new features go live and ideas become reality makes him happy. It’s not titles or big projects that drive him, but the opportunity to learn, see results and create value directly.

– It’s the short, dense learning steps that give the most energy. Learning something new and implementing it right away is the most fun thing," he says.

Safe and inspiring

The culture at SSG is just as important as the technology. Oskar appreciates the unpretentious and helpful environment, where communication is open and direct, and no one judges if you don't know everything.

– This creates a safe and inspiring working climate," he says.

For anyone thinking about SSG, Oskar has a clear advice:

– If you want to work with technology, develop quickly and be part of a culture where people really help each other, then SSG is the place to be.
